Day 9 – The long chase
So today we drove for 8 1/2 hours from south Kansas to near-enough the Mexican border in the hope of a twister, and it nearly delivered for us. In the end, we nearly were swept away by a flash flood instead, driving through almost a foot of fast-flowing water.
All of the action today was down towards the Pecos Valley, much further south than we were hoping – practically Mexixo. The drive was long… really long and the scenery largely unchanging. We arrived just west of Fort Stockton to catch an impressive High-precipitation storm as it pulled in from the West. IT never produced a tornado, but had some great visuals. But boy did it drop a lot of rain and hail, and the torrents flowing down Fort Stockton main street when we returned were of biblical proportions.
